DO NOT FLY SPANAIR. They brutally destroyed by suitcase (an ultra hard Samsonite Cubelite) during a short 1 hour flight by putting a humongous dent and a rupture, I suspect purposefully. Then, when I made the claim, they would only offer to reimburse me for 250 out of 440 euros that it cost me and it was brand new, or - get this - fly with it back to Spain for repairs (it was irreparabely damaged anyway) even though I live in Russia. This airlines cares ZERO about its customers, and I suggest you AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS, or it will cost you, as it cost me.

Try www.lidl.es which has at least the prices of the latest offers on it. You need to put in a postcode, so put one from Lanzarote in so it gives you details from the Canary islands as the mainland offers can differ.

I don't know exactly, but isn't there a bus to the main terminals? The museum is about the old airport, there were no aircraft there as far as I remember, just an old fire engine.

We visit Lanzarote twice a year and on our trip back home we take 2 litres (max. tax free) with us to enjoy Lanzarote at home as well. It's not the real thing, but our imagination does the rest!

Thanks for the tip. I'm pretty sure that we looked at them as well and the dates didn't match up with what we were looking for, at least from Frankfurt.

That's why we fly with AirBerlin twice a year from Dusseldorf to Arrecife directly since 5-6 years. Never had a delay of more than 30 minutes, good and friendly service on bpard.

My thoughts exactly, although La Rueda II used to have one person who was really nice. After we had eaten there once, he always greeted us on other evenings when we walked past, without going into the sales talk to get us into the place. As a result, we went back twice that year!

He had a very good tactic of giving out free lollies to children, and even then he didn't ask try to entice the parents in. Just accepting the lolly meant that the group would stop in front of the entrance, which was enough for people to take a glimpse of how it looked inside. I'm sure that tactic got him a lot of returning trade!

Why do restaurants believe that having a PR or a waiter who is interrupting you when you are trying to read the menu outside work in attracting diners?

This is my favourite road in Lanzarote and our local one. I was sitting on the bend watching the Subida de Haría rally when Jesús Machín crashed into the wall in his Skoda Octavia WRC right in front of me!

I always wondered how easy they were to operate, I've seen one in Orzola but not had the necessity to drive over there to use it out of hours as yet - thanks to the wonderful petrol station / supermarket at Arrieta.

I got a shock in the UK when I last filled up the hire car before flying back, it was nearly 80 Pounds! The most petrol I can squeeze into my car here is 40 Euros and you're right I don't even have to get out of the driving seat - there is a very nice man that does it for me :)

Madrid - The Capital of Spain, several-millions city located in the heart of the Iberian peninsula, almost in its geographical center. I like this city and can tell this is my favourite place all over the world. Great architecture, great style and great people.

I know that the UK is quite hot on plants, so I'd still be very careful. We stuck to the simple 3-in-a-box gift type that were in such abundance at the Hiperdino (Deiland Plaza) and thought that if customs really wanted to make a fuss then we'd just surrender them.

Very true, I've not known whether it was acceptable to buy cactus in Lanzarote as a souvenir or gift for another country. I had thought that you can't fly with plants between countries. Thanks for clarifying the point for us!

Hi Jules,

yes, we'd heard that it was 12EUR per person, and were also positively surprised. Although I am guessing that maybe our source had been on their own or had just not understood and paid the "12" that was being asked for.

Two tips:

1. Take someone along to take photos if you intend going on the camel yourself

2. Speak Spanish to the camel handlers!

I've not been for the camel ride and thought that it might be more expensive than 12 Euros, I was pleasantly surprised at your post. I've promised to take a friend's grandchildren next time they are over and I'm looking forward to it!

I'm sorry to hear that Janet. Spanair never did reply to my last complaint about the late arrival last year, and I have also found lots of similar complaits on travel forums etc.

I travelled with them again in October (the flight had already been booked before I had reason to complain about them), and had my family with me as well that time. On one leg we had a really good crew (probably the best crew I've ever had on a SpanAir flight - they could even speak German without reading their cards!) but our return flight was delayed by
*almost* an hour (not the almost, they didn't let it get to 60 minutes!) and so both of our transit times were cut down to a matter of minutes.

So now I have decided that I might use them again for a cheap flight to Madrid - possibly travelling only with hand luggage - but I'm not sure about using them again for a family holiday.

Have you looked at the EU website: http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/...

If Spanair don't come up with any form of compensation, you can contact European Consumer Centres listed there who should be able to tell you how to take the matter further.

Please let us know how you get this resolved - I'm sure there are many people in a similar situation who would like to know how far you have to go to get compensation from SpanAir.

Spanair is terrible. . . the worst airline ever. . . .
They lost my daughter's luggage and that of her classmate/traveling companion en route to Valencia Spain. The 2 college students are studying abroad this semester and now have no clothes or personal possessions. I have spent 11 hours yesterday and today with phone calls, emails, faxes, etc., to no avail. Spanair doesn't care about customer service, lost bags, and so forth. They have lied to me, my daughter, and the house mother in Valencia regarding location of the bags. They are scandalous and need to cease doing business. BEWARE. DO NOT TRAVEL SPANAIR. I wish I had researched Spanair prior to this trip . . . the web is full of similar complaints.

thank god they are opening the tourist and local supermarkets are far too expensive competition is badly needed
